Tigilau

Tigilau is one of the most romantic and colorful characters od Samoa. This great lover always made love to all the beautiful taupou. But, when it came time for marriage, he would leave the lovely maidens. he was tall, dark and handsome. Whereever he went, the girls would fall madly in love with him. Hw wore a lovely ula (Lei) of red laufala (pandanus) and a colorful lavalava).

During his travels in Upolu, he heard of the famous Sina Tava'e. She was beautiful with long black hair and velvet brown skin. Her personality and charms were equal to her beauty. Tigilau immediately was true went to find Sina. Upon discovering her, he noticed that the description of Sina Tava'e. he also noticed that she had a grandmother who had a special guardian which watched over and protected Sina. It was a pigeon with nine heads (Lupe Ulu Iva). Tigilau, being quite a lover with great ingenuity, used his charms by talking and talking until all nine heads of the pigeon fell asleep. The he made love to lovely Sina.

Sina became pregnant. The people were so angry that they wanted to cook Tigilau in the umu (Samoan rock oven). He sent his friend to get Sina. She came to him on her pigeon. She pleaded with her village people to spare the life of her lover, Tigilau because of the child she bore and the love she had for him. The people were compassionate and they spared his life. Tigilau married Sina Tava' e and never roamed any more. Thus ended the exploits of the great lover of Samoa who was finally conquered by love.
